Reductionist with his sound elements, Sébastien exhibits drawn-out, heavy compositions. Whether he plays on a keyboard or through computational means, his work is expansive in its frequency spectrum. He experiments with a variety of composing methods, performative techniques and teaching methods. He composes and performs using electronic instruments and sensors, programming, improvisation and multi-channel setups. His most notable performances are within the festivals KONTAKTE 17 (2017), EM4 (2018), and Klangwerkstatt (2021) where he played Terry Riley’s Persian Surgery Dervishes.
Sébastien first studied composition at the Université de Montréal and obtained his Masters in Electroacoustic Music in Berlin, studying under Professor Wolfgang Heiniger. He has collaborated with composers like Thomas Kessler, Wolfgang Heiniger and Anda Kryeziu. He has taken part in prominent festivals in Europe such as the Münchner Biennale, Klangwerkstatt Berlin, Decibels Festival in Riga, Latvia, to name just a few. He has also produced two albums; Maximum Intra (2018) and simplicité (2019). He is currently working on a next one called Complexité.
Outside of performing and composing, SebVé teaches programming around Berlin and has taught Programming Languages at the Abbey Road Institute Berlin. Since 2021, he has been teaching different classes at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin. He is also in the process of writing a book laying out the theory and practical implications of different sensors and control interfaces in musical performance.
